We are a nation founded on the idea that EVERY person is created equal (except for all the people of color who were slaves for some of our founding fathers). If you are a teacher, ask your students to guess, (that’s all they can do, is guess), how many years “Legal” slavery existed until it was abolished in the USA.
Guess what folks, slavery existed from the early 1620’s until 1865. Do the math. That’s 245 fucking years!! Excuse my French just now.
Note: The phrase, “Excuse my French” or “Pardon my French” started in England in the 19th century. The use of that phrase was originally a “Literal” saying when speaking with someone and inserting an actual french word in your sentence, like saying, “I appreciate what you are saying, but I still think you are really a huge Trouduc, (asshole) excuse the French, and your Mere Suce la bite (mother sucks dick)”.
So now, if we use a naughty word, we can somewhat legitimize it in our speech by saying, “Pardon my French”. Well, in everyday conversation, I am re-learning how and when to properly utilize my “Moral” compass. In my writing, I know that some readers are embarrassed or embarrassed for me, or offended, when I use a little “French” in my compositions. Forgive me. I’m sorry. Now get over it.
Think of it. It took 245 years, a dude named Lincoln, and a civil war, to recognize that ALL of our species WERE created equal (Emancipation Proclamation). It took another hundred years for REAL freedom and equality? Nahhhhh, we’re still working on that one. Go ask Alabama Redneck Bubba and his friends what THEY think about segregation versus integration, as they’re waving their Rebel flag during the parade for some Civil War General in a Gray Uniform.
We HAVE come a long way though, when you think of it, with regard to overall racism and bigotry. We have a POTUS that’s 50% white (Mother from Kansas, USA), and 50% black (Father from Kenya, Africa), but we still have racism, bigotry, and prejudice.
We proclaim that our nation is a nation of immigrants, (shame on all of us for forgetting who the first “Native” Americans were and are) I guess one could “whitewash” over that part of our history by claiming our innocence, due to our ignorance.
We are slowly evolving into a species of decency, in spite of our indecency. As an evolving species, we have evolved from the ancient ones through thousands of years to what we are today. A species, still evolving. A species filled with good, as well as with evil. I call it as I see it, “Good Karma” and “Bad Karma” plus some innocents, like a three year old child that was just vaporized by a fucking bomb.
How about that person who lived a good life, always helping others, that dies from a single gunshot wound at the age of 73, just because he was standing on the same corner as that dope dealing ass wipe that was the original target in a little drug war.
I guess you could say, “Too bad for Mr. Johnson and that bad karma” The correct response is to look at the goodness Mr. Johnson DID spread throughout his life. Yes he was robbed of the ability to die of old age in his sleep, but his memory lives on. That’s the Good Karma.
Because of how his life inspires generations of other lives well after he is gone. That’s Good Karma. The Good Karma dudes are remembered. Their lives are celebrated, not just remembered. I can sincerely think of only a handful of people that have been gone for a while, that are still remembered in reverence. Many of them have been of a different skin color other than white.
We are a nation of innovation and genius, as well as a nation filled with idiots and commonsenselessness (new word I just invented). We have the ability to operate on a child’s brain, and yet some of us with that vast amount of schooling and training seem to have forgotten to get in the line that was handing out common sense.
This is irregardless of WHATEVER you excel in, wither it’s education, sports, politics, religion, rocket-science, masturbation, medicine, bomb dropping, cookie baking, entertainment, dick sucking, or bank robbery. If most of the story is true, Robin Hood was a “Good Karma” dude, even though he robbed from the rich (gave to the poor).
I think we can all agree that we remember dudes and dudettes like Gandhi as “Good Karma” people. So from everything I just said, I say the following. Those that are given the proverbial “Golden Spoon” at birth either cling to their so called birthright, or multiply their riches and give it all away to real charitable causes before they die.
Givers are remembered, even if they have little to give. Those that give much to humanity are remembered, even if all they gave was their life in humble service because they were also poor. The takers, the ones who selfishly hoard their fortunes without giving, are sometimes remembered, but not always for the right reasons.
Wealth beyond measure should be remembered for goodness and charity, not consumption and selfishness. The display of wealth in our societies is either amazing for it’s positive effects on mankind, or amazing for it’s utter lack of good that could have been accomplished.
Exercise your mind for a minute. Can you name the top 25 billionaires that are giving their wealth to defeat global hunger and starvation, or global misery of any kind? How about the funding of ethical medical research, to eradicate the major diseases afflicting our species? How about funding research in alternative energy, to eliminate our dependence on fossil Fuels? How about funding PEACE instead of WAR? The number is less than 25.
If you can “count” yourself and your family, i.e., include your names as part of the “Wealthy Elite”, you could go on and selfishly hoard your wealth, and maybe be remembered as a brand name of a particular chewing gum, or give your fortunes away for good causes, adding to the list of the right targets and goals for your vast wealth, instead of sitting in your castles counting your money, adding up all your assets like property on a Monopoly board.
Imagine, being remembered for funding the end of Cancer, or being honored for this goal while you are still living.
Imagine funding research that helps eliminate the need for fossil fuels, and seeing that goal met while you are still able to flip on the light switch to read this little essay.
It’s not so much about the redistribution of wealth, as some describe it, it is about the wealthy sharing their good fortune with the rest of their species. Creating their own, “Good Legacy” versus “Bad or Mediocre Legacy”. Via taxation? Maybe. But I’m an optimist, I would like to think we ARE slowly evolving to that stage where more and more “Good Karma Dudes” WILL step up the philanthropic game, giving to the right kinds of research and development, advancing the human species in every area that counts, including the survival of our planet.
Imagine no more war. No more need for weapons. No more misery. Jesus had the right ideas, along with other dudes that told us to love one another, to have Love, Mercy, Forgiveness, and Charity.
I’m not sure, or informed really, of how Warren Buffet intends his billions to be spent, but I’m confident that he’s choosing “Good Karma” areas as his benefactors. Yes, he will be remembered. What will your legacy be?
Last thought: The AL Smith Catholic Charity Dinner, Hillary’s comment about whether she “Took” something before the last debate, and she said, “Well yes, it is called PREPARATION”……..If I had written that joke, I would have written, ” Well, yes, it’s called PREPARATION H, you fucking pain in the Ass.
Really, last thought: Would you rather be the Hemorrhoid, or the Asshole?
