WHITE CHRISTIAN NATIONALISTS/CHRISTIAN ZIONISTS – What would Jesus think about what is happening today? I think he’d be tearing down a hell of a lot of churches. We already know what he said about the Jewish temples….”I am the Temple”.
Christian Nationalism is a complex and often misunderstood ideology.
Here is a breakdown of its core beliefs, from its fundamental principles to its more controversial aspects.
The Core Beliefs: A “Christian Nation”
At its heart, Christian Nationalism is the belief that a nation (particularly the United States) should be defined as a “Christian nation.” This core idea branches into several key tenets:
· Fusion of Identity: The ideology posits that to be a “true” American, one must be Christian. This merges national and religious identities so closely that they become inseparable.
· Divine Founding and Mission: Adherents often believe the U.S. was founded by God with a divine purpose. This is seen as an exaggerated form of American exceptionalism, where the nation itself is viewed as having a special covenant with God.
· Government Based on Christian Values: A central goal is to shape U.S. laws and policies to reflect a particular set of conservative Christian values. This includes the idea that the government should actively support and promote Christianity.
Spectrum of Belief: “Folk” vs. “Intellectual”
It’s crucial to distinguish between two main groups, as their beliefs and goals differ significantly.
Aspect “Folk” Christian Nationalism “Intellectual” Christian Nationalism
Primary Focus Cultural identity and personal sentiment.
Political theory and structural change:
View on “Christian Nation” A demographic/historical reality that should be preserved
A legal/statutory reality that must be established
Key Goals Cultural influence, symbolic presence (e.g., flags in churches, “In God We Trust”)
Restructuring government to explicitly favor Christianity. View of other religions seen as foreign to American identity Should be legally subordinated or discouraged.
Political Approach Voting for conservative candidates Post-liberal; skeptical of democracy, open to strongman rule.
Political and Social Goals: The desired end-state is a society where Christian influence is pervasive. Key goals include:
· Legal Changes: Implementing laws based on conservative Christian morality, such as restricting abortion, opposing transgender rights, and allowing displays of the Ten Commandments in public spaces.
· Influence in Public Education: Efforts to “Christianize” public schools through policies like posting “In God We Trust” or replacing school counselors with chaplains.
· Restrictive Immigration and National Identity. A vision of the nation that is often ethnically and culturally homogeneous. This can lead to restrictive views on immigration and who truly “belongs”.
· Skepticism of Democratic Institutions. Some intellectual leaders and a significant portion of adherents express openness to authoritarian or military rule as a means to achieve their goals, viewing democracy as having failed.
Controversies and Criticisms:
Christian Nationalism is a highly controversial movement, facing criticism from both secular and religious quarters.
· Theological Distortion. Many Christian leaders argue it’s a “gross distortion” of Jesus’s teachings, which emphasize inclusion and care for the marginalized, not political dominance. Critics say it makes an idol of the nation.
· Racism and White Supremacy. Scholars and critics point to a deep connection between Christian nationalism and racism in the U.S. context.
The “Christian” identity is often intertwined with an ethno-national identity of whiteness, and some factions promote “Kinism,” the belief that racial segregation is biblically ordained.
· Threat to Democracy and Religious Freedom. By asserting that only one religious group should hold power, it undermines the principle of religious pluralism and the separation of church and state, which critics see as a threat to democratic institutions for everyone.
Related Movements-Integralism
Within Catholicism, a related ideology called “integralism” exists. While distinct, it shares common ground with Protestant Christian nationalism.
Integralism holds that the Catholic Church should be the superior moral authority, guiding the state to help enforce its spiritual mission.
Both movements converge in their opposition to secular liberalism and on specific policy goals like anti-abortion laws.
Christian Nationalism and its association with Zionism:
The relationship between Christian Nationalism and Zionism is complex, involving both theological alliances and critical distinctions.
While one is a framework for defining a nation (like the U.S.) by Christian identity, the other is a Jewish movement supporting a Jewish homeland.
They intersect most significantly in Christian Zionism, a powerful force in American politics.
Many would say, Christian Zionism although a tiny minority of the “Christian” community in America, are in complete control of our political system and politics at the moment. Look at the numbers. 99% of Congress, both major parties, take money from zionist lobbies (Israel). Political leaders openly state their “Israel First” policies/positions. WTF?
Here is a breakdown of the concepts and their connections:
Definitions and Core Beliefs
· Christian Nationalism: An ideology advocating for the fusion of Christian identity with American civic life. It holds that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation and should be governed by Christian principles .
It is often linked to preserving a specific cultural identity and can intersect with white supremacy.
· Zionism: A national movement supporting the development and protection of a Jewish nation-state in the historic land of Israel. It emerged, was founded by atheists in the 19th century as a political solution to antisemitism in Europe.
· Christian Zionism: A specific theological movement within Christianity. Adherents believe the return of Jews to the Holy Land is a biblical prophecy that must be fulfilled before the Second Coming of Christ .
The Intersection: How They Connect:
The primary link between these two ideologies is Christian Zionism, which serves as a bridge .
· Theological Motivation: Christian Zionists support the State of Israel for eschatological (end-times) reasons. They interpret Genesis 12:3 (“I will bless those who bless you”) as a divine command to support Israel.
· Political Alliance: This belief creates a powerful political bloc. Organizations like Christians United for Israel (CUFI) lobby the U.S. government for strong pro-Israel policies. This alliance is based on shared geopolitical goals, not shared theology.
· Numbers and Influence: There are estimated to be over 30 million Christian Zionists in the U.S., potentially outnumbering Jewish Zionists. They form a significant part of the Republican Party base.
Jewish and Christian Perspectives on Zionism:
It is vital to understand that support for, or opposition to, Zionism is not monolithic within either faith.
· Jewish Perspectives: Zionism originated as a largely secular political movement, though it has religious strands.
Many Jews support Israel as a necessary haven, while some religious Jews oppose it on the grounds that a Jewish state should only be established by the Messiah.
· Christian Perspectives: Mainline Protestant denominations (like the PCUSA and Anglican churches) have issued statements condemning Christian Zionism as a “false teaching”.
Critics argue it is theologically flawed, ignores the rights of Palestinian Christians, and uses Jewish people as a means to a Christian end (the Second Coming).
Points of Tension and Divergence:
Despite the alliance, significant tensions exist between these worldviews.
· The “End Times” Problem: Some Christian Zionists believe that during the apocalypse, Jews will either be converted to Christianity or perish. This ultimate goal is obviously rejected by Jewish Zionists.
· Differing Nationalisms. Christian Nationalism focuses on making America a “Christian nation.” Zionism focuses on the State of Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people. One is centered on U.S. identity, the other on Jewish self-determination.
· Competing Visions: For many Christian Nationalists, America holds a special, God-ordained place in the world. This can clash with the Zionist view of Israel’s primacy in biblical prophecy, creating an undercurrent of rivalry in how each group sees God’s plan unfolding.
Dispensationalism, Christian Zionists, and Christian Nationalists:
Dispensationalism is a theological system for interpreting the Bible. It is the engine behind the far right ideology of Christian Zionism, providing the biblical justification for why many American evangelicals so strongly support the modern State of Israel.
To understand the alliance between Christian Nationalists and Zionists, you have to understand this theology. Here is a breakdown of what it is and why it matters geopolitically.
The Core Idea: Two Different Peoples of God
At its simplest, Dispensationalism teaches that God has two distinct groups of people with two distinct destinies.
1. Israel (Ethnic Jews): God’s earthly people, promised a literal kingdom and land (the Millennium).
2. The Church (Christians): God’s heavenly people, destined for salvation by grace.
Most other Christian theologies believe the Church “replaces” or “fulfills” Israel (Supersessionism). Dispensationalism rejects this. It insists God’s promises to ethnic Israel in the Old Testament are still waiting to be fulfilled literally.
The Key Beliefs Driving Politics
Dispensationalism is famous for popularizing a specific end-times timeline, which directly influences foreign policy views:
· The Rapture: The belief that Jesus will secretly return to snatch believers (the Church) off Earth before a 7-year tribulation period. This creates a sense of urgency regarding end-times prophecy.
· The Literal 1,000-Year Reign (Millennium): The belief that Jesus will literally return to Jerusalem and sit on the throne of David to rule the world for 1,000 years.
· The Premillennial Return of the Jews: This is the crucial link to Zionism. Dispensationalists believe the Jewish people must be back in the Holy Land before Jesus can return. They view the 1948 founding of Israel and the 1967 capture of Jerusalem not just as political events, but as prophetic milestones paving the way for the Second Coming.
How It Connects Christian Nationalism and Zionism
Dispensationalism acts as the bridge between American Christian Nationalists and the State of Israel.
1. Biblical Mandate: It provides a theological reason to support Israel (based on Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you”).
2. Geopolitical Strategy: It encourages supporters to advocate for U.S. policies that help Israel—such as moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem or supporting Israeli sovereignty—because they see it as cooperating with God’s plan.
3. Media Influence: This theology was spread massively by the Scofield Reference Bible (1909) and later by books like the Left Behind series, embedding these ideas deep into American evangelical culture.
The Controversy: Love or Prophecy Fulfillment?
This is where the tension with Jewish Zionism appears. Dispensationalists support Israel, but often for reasons that make Jewish people uncomfortable:
· Instrumental Support: Some critics argue the support is not for Jewish people themselves, but for their role in a Christian script. The goal is ultimately the Second Coming of Jesus, not Jewish safety per se.
· The End Goal: While Dispensationalists love Israel now, their theology often holds that during the end-times, most Jews will either convert to Christianity or face judgment, i. e., burn in Hell. This creates a strange alliance where two groups walk together for now, but have very different ideas about how the story ends.
There are six major religions in the world. Each of which have millions of followers. The Abrahamic religions (originating from the Middle East with a shared tradition) are the most common in the western world and the Dharmic Religions, (originating from the Indian subcontinent).
The Abrahamic Religions are monotheistic (belief in one God) and all three religions trace their origins to the patriarch Abraham. Here are the largest and most influential:
· Christianity (2.4 billion): Centers on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.
It believes Jesus is the Son of God and the savior of humanity. It has three main branches: Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and Eastern Orthodoxy. As we previously discussed, “Dispensationalism” is a belief system within far right Protestant Evangelicalism.
· Islam (1.9 billion): Followers (Muslims) believe in one God (Allah) and that Muhammad is his final prophet.
The primary text is the Quran. The two main denominations are Sunni (majority) and Shia.
Islam shares many prophets (like Moses and Jesus) with Judaism and Christianity but views them differently.
· Judaism (15 million): A monotheistic religion and ethnic tradition of the Jewish people. It is based on the covenant between God and Abraham, and the laws given to Moses in the Torah.
Unlike Christianity and Islam, it is typically not a proselytizing religion (it does not actively seek converts).
The Dharmic Religions originated in India and generally share concepts like dharma (duty), karma (cause and effect), and moksha/nirvana (liberation).
· Hinduism (1.2 billion): Often considered the oldest religion in the world. It is a diverse system of thought with no single founder, encompassing many gods and goddesses (though often viewed as manifestations of a single ultimate reality, Brahman).
It upholds the caste system and texts like the Vedas and Upanishads.
· Buddhism (500 million): Founded by Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) in the 5th century BCE.
It focuses on the path to enlightenment through ethics, meditation, and wisdom. It generally does not focus on a creator god but on personal spiritual development.
· Sikhism (30 million): Founded in the 15th century in the Punjab region. It combines elements of Islam and Hinduism but is a distinct faith. It believes in one God, rejects the caste system, and emphasizes equality and service.
Taoism (following the “Tao” or the Way) and Confucianism (focus on social harmony and ethics).
· Chinese Traditional Religion (Taoism & Folk): A complex mix of local practices, ancestor veneration, and the philosophical teachings of Taoism (following the “Tao” or the Way) and Confucianism (focus on social harmony and ethics).
Estimating the number of Taoists worldwide is surprisingly complex, and sources provide figures that vary dramatically—from about 2.7 million to 173 million . This wide range exists because Taoism is often practiced fluidly alongside other traditions, making it hard to count.
Unlike Taoism, estimating followers of Confucius involves a similar challenge, but the numbers tend to be more consistently reported in the lower range—though they still represent just a fraction of his true influence.
The short answer is that there are approximately 6 to 6.5 million formal adherents of Confucianism worldwide .
However, just like with Taoism, this number is misleading because Confucianism is often a philosophy or cultural ethic rather than a religion with formal membership rolls.
· Indigenous and Folk Religions: Various animistic and shamanistic traditions practiced by tribal groups in Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Numbers of adherents unknown.
In conclusion, in the words of the Warden in that great Paul Newman movie COOL HAND LUKE, “What we have here, is a failure to communicate”, and if you’re not suffering with ADHD and actually read this essay and didn’t type in TLDR, I believe that REGARDLESS of what “Religion” that YOU believe in and follow, the fact is that long before “Religion” came along, go all the way back to the beginning of time when our species first stood up on two legs and walked out of the cave instead of crawling, we are the only species that experience the difference between “Good versus Evil”. Animals kill each other for food….Survival of the fittest as they say.
Our species kills our own kind for pleasure, profit, etcetera. If your “Religion” permits you to feel good about yourself while you are slaughtering millions of innocent people, then I think you need to reevaluate your beliefs and find another religion.
Isn’t it interesting that throughout our species history, the religions most known for wars and killing of innocent people are the Abrahamic crowd? All three of them.
I think the worst religion throughout history just by the sheer numbers slaughtered are the “Christians”.
In modern day history, the Nazi-like Zionist regime controlling the State of Israel right now along with the “Christian” Zionists financing the slaughter against the Palestinians take the prize for all-time murderous religions, although you have to recognize that Zionism is not a religion. It highjacked Judaism a long time ago. Of course the followers of the Judaic religion are just as bad. After all, if you’re not Jewish, you’re less than human. OH GOY!
We as a species, have been in an approximate 2,300 years of what we call, an “Age”, called the Age of Pisces.
For the past 150 years or so, we have been crossing a threshold between the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius. Google both names. The key words for Pisces is the Age of Religions & Wars. The key words for Aquarius? The Age of Technology & Peace! What I call, “The Beam me up Scotty” age.
Isn’t it funny how the Star Trek series was completely void of religion?
Folks, we are right at the end of that 150 or so year threshold, close to crossing over between the two ages, and we are coming to a fork in the road.
One fork takes our species to total extinction, and the other fork takes us fully into a new age, our future. What I call the New Age Order. NOT the new world order. Perhaps not without some pain and suffering along the way.
Maybe only a few million survivors of a worldwide nuclear war? Those that DO survive will continue on and continue to grow in technology AND peace. Beam me up Scotty!
